Project Overview
I designed, developed, and continue to maintain my personal professional portfolio website to showcase my experience across digital media, strategic communication, web design, digital marketing, and content creation.
The project evolved from an earlier portfolio into a more focused professional website with improved visual identity, content structure, user experience, mobile responsiveness, portfolio presentation, and search visibility. The website serves as both my professional platform and an ongoing real-world web development project.
The Challenge
The existing portfolio needed to better represent the breadth of my professional background and growing digital media experience. Its visual identity, navigation, content organization, and professional positioning needed to become clearer and more consistent.
The challenge was to transform the website from a basic portfolio into a cohesive professional platform that could communicate my experience effectively to employers, collaborators, and professional contacts while remaining easy to navigate across desktop and mobile devices.
Strategy & Approach
I approached the redesign by first reconsidering my professional positioning and the information architecture of the website. I simplified the main navigation, reorganized content around the needs of visitors, established a consistent visual system, and strengthened the connection between my professional experience and portfolio work.
The website was structured around five primary areas: Home, About, Portfolio, Experience, and Contact. Individual portfolio projects were organized through dynamic project pages to create a more scalable and consistent presentation system.
Visual Design & Branding
I developed a cleaner visual identity using a professional navy and blue colour system, consistent typography, improved spacing, and reusable design elements across the website.
I also developed an EF personal brand mark and applied it across the website header, favicon, and supporting professional materials. The redesign created greater visual consistency between my website, portfolio content, resume, and broader professional identity.
Website Development & UX
I built and refined the website in Wix, focusing on usability, responsive design, content hierarchy, and consistent navigation.
The development work included restructuring pages, creating reusable portfolio layouts, configuring dynamic project content, improving calls to action, refining forms, optimizing desktop and mobile layouts, and testing links and interactions across the published website.
Particular attention was given to making substantial professional and academic experience easier to explore without overwhelming visitors.
Portfolio & Content Architecture
I developed a portfolio structure capable of presenting different types of work, including web design, UX/UI, digital marketing, graphic design, social media content, video production, podcasting, communication campaigns, and academic projects.
Each project is presented with supporting information such as the project context, objectives, process, tools, skills, and outcomes. This structure allows the portfolio to grow as I complete new professional and creative work.
Responsive & Mobile Optimization
I reviewed and optimized the website for mobile viewing, adjusting layouts, typography, spacing, navigation, imagery, buttons, and content hierarchy where necessary.
I also tested the published website to ensure that important links, portfolio navigation, calls to action, and the contact form function correctly across the user journey.
SEO & Search Visibility
Search engine optimization became an important part of the website development process. I refined page titles, meta descriptions, professional keywords, site naming, page structure, and other on-page SEO elements to better communicate the website's purpose to both visitors and search engines.
I connected and reviewed the website through Google Search Console, inspected important URLs, tested live pages for crawlability and indexing eligibility, requested indexing for updated pages, and reviewed the website's XML sitemap.
During this process, I identified outdated sitemap information in Search Console, verified Wix's current sitemap structure, and resubmitted the updated sitemap to support Google's discovery and recrawling of the redesigned website.
Testing, Publishing & Maintenance
The website was tested after publication to confirm navigation, internal and external links, mobile presentation, portfolio pages, contact-form functionality, social sharing presentation, and general usability.
Rather than treating the website as a finished one-time project, I continue to maintain it as a living professional platform by adding new work, refining content, monitoring search visibility, and making improvements as my professional experience develops.
Outcome
The result is a live professional portfolio that brings together my background in communication with my growing experience in digital media, web design, content strategy, SEO, and digital marketing.
More importantly, the project has given me practical experience managing the full lifecycle of a website—from strategy and information architecture through design, development, content management, SEO, publishing, testing, troubleshooting, and ongoing maintenance.
